ICPC Online workshops

Showcase your organisation’s research and share it with the world.

Nanotechnology contributes to research and development in an extraordinary number of ways. Outstanding researchers and teams that specialise in nanoscience are located across the globe in emerging economies and developing countries but their output often fails to reach a public platform.

The ICPC Nanonet project can increase the visibility and networking opportunities of scientists and researchers through theme-based online workshops that can promote current investigations and research output and thus facilitate collaborations.

We welcome your proposals to organise and/or present a free online workshop. Conferencing software, full technical support and workshop promotion will be provided by the ICPC Nanonet consortium.

Nanotechnology for Water Purification - Online Workshops

In December 2009 ICPC-NanoNet organised and hosted three free online workshops focusing on “Nanotechnology for Water Purification”. The first session was led by Dr Ineke Malsch of Malsch TechnoValuation, who  delivered a presentation on “European funding possibilities for European and non-European researchers” followed by a question and answer session.

Subsequent sessions were led by Prof. Dr Eugene Cloete, Head of the Microbiology Department of the University of Pretoria, South Africa; Dr Rui Krause, Department of Chemical Technology, University of Johannesburg, South Africa; Dr Patrick Dunlop, University of Ulster, Northern Ireland, UK; Dr Bas Hofs - KWR Water Cycle Research Institute, The Netherlands; and Dr Lorette Scifo - LABEIN Tecnalia, Spain.

The topics addressed included ‘Control of Biofouling in Nanofiltration Systems’; ‘Functionalized nanotubes/polyurethane composites for the removal of chlorinated organics in water’; ‘Water Treatment in Developing Regions – Using Nanotechnology to Enhance Solar Disinfection’; ‘Nanotechnology for Water Treatment: Promises, Questions and Detection of C60’; and ‘Photocatalytic Decontamination of Water by Nano-TiO2: Perspectives and Challenges’.

The talks generated stimulating and lively discussions on technical, economic and safety issues.

Since each workshop was heavily oversubscribed a second series will be held later this year for those who did not manage to secure a place. Meanwhile, the presentations and slides highlighting the research interest of the speakers and several other participants are available free at the ICPC-Nanonet website for registered users, who can continue their discussions on the online forum on the website or by contacting the relevant experts directly.

Nanoscientists from Europe, or from the International Cooperation Partner Countries to the EU, are welcome to propose their own teleconference/online workshop related to nanotechnology, which can be organised by ICPC-Nanonet on request.

ICPC NanoNet Project

ICPCNanoNet is a 4-year project, funded by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme, which aims to provide wider access to published nanoscience and nanotechnology research and opportunities for collaboration between organisations and scientists in the EU and International Cooperation Partner Countries (ICPC).

Plans are underway for the 2nd annual workshop to be held in Beijing, China from the 14th -15th June 2010. Work has also commenced on the second set of annual reports on N&N in ICPC regions.

For up-to-date project news, read the latest newsletter.

Your involvement in the ICPCNanoNet project will help increase networking opportunities for nano-stakeholders across the globe.

Catch up with the latest research articles on the publications archive: http://www.nanoarchive.org/ and upload your own peer-reviewed papers.

If you are part of an N&N organisation and would like your details to be registered on our networking database, contact the Project Coordinator:
