  • Risk assessment, Governance and the Code of Conduct for Nanotechnology
the Institute of Nanotechnology: Successful commercialisation of nano-enabled products is fraught with many difficulties including access to finance, securing IP, and manufacturing scale-up. It also requires an integrated approach that includes risk assessment, communication and good governance.

  • The NEPHH FP7 project invites manufacturers and users of nanomaterials to complete a short survey
NEPHH: Nanomaterials related Environmental Pollution and Health Hazards Throughout their Life Cycle (NEPHH) is undertaking a survey on the health, environmental and safety practices of organizations working with nanomaterials.

  • NanoKTN and Institute of Nanotechnology Launch International NanoMicroClub for Global Investment
Institute of Nanotechnology: The Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Network (NanoKTN), one of the UK‘s primary knowledge-based networks for Micro and Nanotechnologies, and the Institute of Nanotechnology (IoN), a professional membership organisation for the nanotechnology industry, have announced a collaboration that will encourage and support global business development for UK SMEs.

  • International Workshop on Nanomedicines
The European Medicines Agency: The European Medicines Agency will hold a workshop to discuss the state-of-the-science of nanomedicines on
26-27 April 2010 at the Agency‘s offices in London.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together regulatory, academic, and industry scientists to share their experiences with the development and use of nanotechnologies in Medicinal Products. The application of nanotechnologies to medicinal science spans over the whole range of medicinal products from disease treatment and prevention to restoration, correction of modification of physiological function or medical diagnoses. Independent views on the main aspects to be considered will be presented at this workshop:

    • Experience in evaluating and developing nanomedicines

    • Emerging nanotechnology applications in the pharmaceutical area

    • Regulatory borderline issues

    • Benefit/risk and application of Risk Management principles

    • Global outlook on nanomedicines

By fostering the global dimension of the emerging nanomedicines, the Agency expects to further extend the

dialogue opportunities on the requirements and methods considered acceptable for nanomedicines and to support the innovative development.

To express your interest in attending the workshop, please use the attached registration form and send it back to the Agency (martine.vanrooyen@ema.europa.eu) before 15 March 2010.

Please note that approximately 120 places are available for the workshop. Spaces will be allocated on a firstcome-first-serve basis.

Further information can also be obtained from Martine van Rooyen (E-mail: martine.vanrooyen@ema.europa.eu).

The European Medicines Agency looks forward to welcoming you at the workshop.

  • Russian scientists demonstrate precision modification of nanotopography of polymer surface with ultraviolet radiation
Federal internet-portal Nanotechnologies & Nanomaterials: In the Institute of Physical Problems, a method has been developed and successfully tested which is capable of smoothing asperities of poly(methyl methacrylate) surface in nanometre or subnanometre scales by means of 124 nm wavelength vacuum ultraviolet (VUV).

  • First Commercial Application of Baytubes® Carbon Nanotubes in Japan
Bayer MaterialScience: Bayer MaterialScience (Leverkusen, Germany) reports that aqueous suspensions of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) containing individual tubes offer interesting perspectives for a number of new applications which depend on a high electrical or thermal conductivity, respectively.
